WWI [TW: Gore(?)/War] Empty
PostSubject: WWI [TW: Gore(?)/War]   WWI [TW: Gore(?)/War] EmptyOctober 16th 2013, 11:42 pm

[TW: GORE. TW: WAR.]

The date is, July 28, 1914
Europe had broken out into war. This war would further become known, as World War One.

It seemed everything had gone downhill, one outburst to the next. soldiers were dying left and right. It was a hard time for everyone. Though soon, when war approached, everyone began making allies.
The United Kingdom joined with France, and the Russian Empire to make up the Allies.
The Central powers of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy too, but he hadn't fought alongside them.
These alliances were expanded, and reorganized as the war went on. Italy, Japan and the United States joined the Allies, and the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria joined the Central Powers.

Ultimately, more than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, were mobilized in one of the largest wars in history

The Austro-Hungarians fired the first shot in preparation for the Invasion of Serbia. As Russia mobilized, Germany invaded the neutral Belgium and Luxembourg before moving towards France, leading Britain to declare war on Germany. After the German march on Paris was brought to a halt, what became known as the Western Front settled into battle with attrition, with a Trench Line that would change little until 1917.
Meanwhile, on the Eastern Front, the Russian army was successful against the Austro-Hungarians, but was stopped in its Invasion of East Prussia by the Germans.
In November 1914, the Ottoman Empire joined the war, opening fronts in the Caucasus, Mesopotamia and the Sinai. Italy and Bulgaria went to war in 1915 and Romania in 1916.
The war approached a new resolution after the Russian Tsar's government collapsed in March 1917 and a subsequent revolution in November brought the Russians to terms with the Central Powers. After a 1918 German offensive along the western front, the Allies drove back the Germans in a series of successful offensives and American forces began entering the trenches.
Germany, which had its own trouble with revolutionaries agreed to an armistice on 11 November 1918, ending the war in victory for the Allies. By the end of the war, four major imperial powers—the German, Russian, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires—ceased to exist. The successor states of the former two lost substantial territory, while the latter two were dismantled.
The map of central Europe was redrawn into smaller states, with the League of Nations formed with the aim of preventing any repetition of such an appalling conflict. This aim failed, with weakened states, renewed European nationalism and the humiliation of Germany contributing to the rise of fascism and the conditions for World War Two.

Alice Kirkland, otherwise known as Great Britain in this time. She had declared War on Germany for attacking France, but it didn't end there. Fights were left and right, it was... Interesting, actually. She was more amused with all of this than she should be. Then again, it wasn't much of her involving in the fights. She joined when she felt she needed to, though, she was a part of the main three, the allies. Soon, more joined them though and they grew stronger. Fighting against the Central powers. It was then, that she realized she could no longer look at this like a game. It was life or death, now. There was no more joking. This was the real deal, this wasn't some silly Seven years' war, no. This was war this wasn't something she could simply ignore for a few minutes. No. She needed to keep an eye on her troops, as well as Russia and Frances. She couldn't let her allies fall in battle. She wouldn't. She takes a deep breath, and gears up. Though, forgetting she was a woman and it was strange for her to be doing this, she continued nonetheless. She couldn't sit inside and do paperwork forever, right?

Soon, she had joined the others. They were a bit surprised by her arrival, but she was glad to be there. Glad to be useful.  Though, the trenches were disgusting, and uncomfortable, she put up with it, as everyone else did. Even if she had that Holier-than-thou attitude, she knew she was no different than everyone else.  She watched the men work the field guns, deciding not to get into that. She had no idea how any of that worked, and nor would she try to learn in such a small amount of time. It would just be simply pointless. She stood back, doing what she was told, watching out for any possible over head attacks from the other side.

'This is going to be a long, long war.' she thought to herself.
